The Senate chamber has now reopened and, adds Myerscough, its users are extremely happy
with the end results: “The Iconyx system has addressed all the acoustic problems that used to
characterise the room, and the AV system and touch screen control provides the Senate with a
University of Birmingham - Senate Building
level of functionality that transforms the way they can use the space – a pretty successful

Novita’s Senior A/V Designer Christian Bechard says, “ We had worked with ICONYX in several other venues and had
been impressed with their steerability, in other words, their ability to aim the
audio exactly where you want it. In this case we needed to be able to avoid
getting sound energy up into the ceiling, so we chose the ICONYX to steer
the sound directly to the audience without any splashing into the ceiling.”

The front of house system for the main stage is a line array system, a pair of Renkus-Heinz Iconyx IC24 systems mounted just outside the proscenium with two Renkus-Heinz PN112 subwoofers. This system isn't really used as much for concerts, as most touring acts bring in their own systems or use local rentals, but they are perfect for large corporate events that utilize the entire space, and of course can be used for entertainment that is not touring with their own system.

Mark Clay comments: "The system wasn't designed to be a full-rock'n'roll system, but to be absolutely perfect for the intended mixture of VIP conferencing and film viewing. The sound from those speakers is so clear and warm, and we have a lot of sub-bass for when we run films. Renkus-Heinz simply offered the best solution all round and I'm very pleased that I went that way because they're beutiful sounding speakers, and the factory were extremely supportive and helpful throughout the project."

cover and audio fidelity. After careful evaluation of various
makes, the best candidate fulfilling the requirement rested
on the Renkus Heinz TRX Loudspeakers, which ultimately assumed

The use of this building is not only
correct from the curators´ viewpoint, it also entails
that the municipal parliament can once again take advantage
of the traditional facilities of the building: the plenary
hall as well as the lopby are restoredto their old functions,
the old cafeteria is turning into a modern casino, and even
the cloackrooms are once again used the way they were intended
to be used.
